The Winter 2025 issue focuses on enhancing work design, implementing AI, and increasing employee engagement. In an era of uncertainty, it explores how to equip individuals with effective decision-making skills, given that the inability to predict future trends can lead to emotional discomfort and potentially hasty decisions. A study conducted in collaboration with HSBC involved 17,555 individuals across 12 markets, including over 3,000 business participants. The study aimed to identify global emotional responses to uncertainty and the tendencies that predict robust decision-making abilities. The research report, “Seizing Uncertainty,” reveals that effective decision-makers possess five key attributes that help them overcome decision paralysis caused by doubt and anxiety. These attributes enable them to take effective action during uncertain times. One such attribute is the ability to deal with change. The report emphasizes the importance of these skills as nearly half of the respondents expressed regret for not seizing passed opportunities. Therefore, unless leaders learn to manage the emotions involved in decision-making, they and their organizations could suffer.
